Why does US Customs and Border Protection have difficulty in?
Why does US Customs and Border Protection have difficulty in recruiting enough Border Patrol Agents? As someone who has worked across the counter from customs officers for almost half a century I have an opinion. Several in fact. The characteristics that make a good officer are rare. The knowledge required makes training long and expensive. Causing a high percentage of wash outs. There are 600 sets of laws governing imports to Canada, probably more in the U.S.A. And that is not 600 laws, it is 600 SETS of laws. I think the general public holds the Border Patrol officers in the lowest regard of all the law enforcement branches. They are regarded as nosey officials enforcing a whole raft of regulations the public knows nothing about. You can understand a speeding ticket, but why the dirt on the bottom of your car gets you refused entry at the border is a bit more obscure.
